Download Koru

Koru is free to download for Windows and macOS, with no account and no trial. Pick your platform below. Every button links to the current release, from the same feed Koru’s own updater uses, and Koru keeps itself up to date after that. A Linux app is coming soon, and the iPhone and Android apps are in development.

Which version should I download?

The one on this page. These buttons offer the stable release, the build meant to sit still. Koru also publishes beta and nightly builds for people who want new features first: it aims for a nightly build every day, a beta every week and a stable release every two weeks. Every build and its release notes are on the releases page.

What do I need to run Koru?

A 64-bit Windows PC, or a Mac with Apple silicon running macOS 12 or later. Koru draws its window on the graphics card, so it needs one that supports DirectX 12, Vulkan or Metal, which almost every computer from the last decade has. After the download, Koru needs no account and no internet connection.

Can I build Koru from source?

Yes. Koru is open source under the MPL-2.0 license, and the README on GitHub lists what you need and the commands to set it up and run it on Windows or macOS. The downloads on this page are built from that same source, plus a little configuration only Koru holds, such as the key that signs updates.

Questions

Is Koru really free?

Yes. There is no account, no trial and no ads. Koru Cloud, an optional paid sync service, is coming soon from $9.99 a month. You never need it to use your notes.

Do I need an account to download or use Koru?

No. Download it, open it and start writing. Nothing asks you to sign up.

Is there a Koru app for iPhone or Android?

Not yet. Both are in development and not in the app stores. Your computers can sync with each other today.

Is there a Koru app for Linux?

Not yet. A Linux app is coming soon. Koru runs on Windows and on Macs with Apple silicon today.

How do updates work?

Koru checks for updates in the background and shows you the release notes. It asks before it downloads an update and again before it installs one, and it checks the package’s signature first. Updates replace the app and never touch your notes.
