Everything Koru does, on your own computer

Koru is a free, open-source workspace for notes and documents that runs on your own computer. It works offline, syncs directly between your devices, lets the AI you already use work with your notes, and keeps your shells beside your docs. Here is what it does today, with a page for each part.

What else is in Koru?

  • Documents. Headings, lists, checklists, tables, code blocks, images and attachments, saved as you type.
  • Pages and search. Nest pages in a tree, tag them with #tags, and find anything with full-text search, even from outside Koru.
  • Profiles and workspaces. Keep work, school and personal notes apart, each profile with its own workspaces.
  • Versions. Save named versions of a document and compare them later.
  • Imports. Bring notes in from Evernote, Notion, OneNote, Google Docs, Markdown and TextBundle. Every import except Google Docs runs offline.
  • Export. Markdown or TextBundle at any time, or a whole workspace as one backup file.

What’s coming next?

Koru Cloud, an optional paid service for an always-on copy of your workspaces, is coming soon. So are a Linux app and the iPhone and Android apps. Tasks, working with other people, a web clipper and more are on the public roadmap, and what people ask for decides the order.

Questions

Is every feature free?

Yes. Everything on this page is in free Koru, with no account and no trial. Koru Cloud, coming soon from $9.99 a month, is optional and adds an always-on copy of your workspaces.

Which features need an internet connection?

Only the ones that talk to something else: syncing with your other devices, importing from Google Docs, and any cloud AI you connect. Writing, search, imports from files and your shells all work offline.
