Notion pricing changes in 2026: what the new AI credits mean for you

By Steven Liechti, founder of Koru · Published

Short answer

Notion's seat prices didn't change. What changed on October 19, 2026 is how Notion AI is metered: Business and Enterprise seats now include 1,500 Standard and 500 Select credits a month, which reset monthly and don't roll over. New workspaces start now; existing workspaces move over on November 2, 2026.

On October 19, 2026, Notion announced a faster Notion AI and "a new credit system" (Notion's announcement, launch thread on X). If you searched for a Notion price increase, here's the short version: the price per seat is the same, but AI use on Business and Enterprise is now counted in credits.

I build a notes app, Koru, so I have an interest here. Everything below about Notion comes from Notion's own announcement, pricing page and help center, linked as I go. I'll keep Koru to the last section.

What changed in Notion's pricing on October 19, 2026?

Notion's announcement lists five changes:

  • A smarter `Auto`: Notion's model router, which sends each task to the model that best balances quality, speed and cost. Notion says it delivers similar results to frontier models at about 90% lower cost.
  • Rebuilt agents: Notion Agent and Custom Agents run on new infrastructure for longer-running tasks.
  • Bring your own AI: connect a ChatGPT plan to your personal Notion Agent, bring your own model key on Enterprise (in private alpha), or connect AI tools through Notion MCP.
  • An AI Command Center: usage dashboards, spending limits and agent controls for admins. Notion says this is coming soon.
  • A new credit system: Business and Enterprise seats include monthly Standard and Select credits, and admins can buy extra Notion credits for the workspace.

The credit system is the part that touches your bill, so it's the rest of this post. If you want the mechanics in detail, I wrote a separate explainer: how Notion AI credits work.

Did Notion raise its prices?

Not the seat prices. Notion's pricing page lists the same plans at the same prices as before the announcement:

PlanPrice on notion.com/pricingNotion AI on the plan
Free$0 per member a monthTrial of Notion AI
Plus$10 per member a monthTrial of Notion AI
Business$20 per member a monthNotion Agent, AI Meeting Notes; 1,500 Standard + 500 Select credits per member a month
EnterpriseCustom pricingEverything in Business; 1,500 Standard + 500 Select credits per member a month
Checked October 19, 2026. Notion notes that the included amount may vary with your plan and purchase arrangement.

What's new is a cap on included AI use, and a paid way past it. Each Business or Enterprise member gets a monthly allowance. When it runs out, AI features pause until the next reset, unless an admin lets members continue on the workspace's Notion credits, which cost extra (Manage your AI credits).

Whether that costs you more depends on how much AI your team uses. Notion says that, based on its estimates, "the vast majority of users are unlikely to run out of credits." That's Notion's estimate; your usage page is the real answer.

What moves to credits?

Notion lists which features use which credits (eligible features):

FeatureUsesAfter it runs out
Notion Agent on AutoStandard creditsNotion credits, if your admin allows it
Notion Agent with a model you pickSelect creditsNotion credits, if your admin allows it
AI editing, page translation, AI blocks, AI database formulasStandard creditsNotion credits, if your admin allows it
AI Meeting NotesStandard credits from December 1, 2026Notion credits, if your admin allows it
Custom AgentsThe owner's Select credits, unless the workspace funds the agentNotion credits, if your admin allows it
High credit consumption modelsNotion credits onlyYour admin can buy more
Workers (Beta)No credits while in betaNot applicable

Notion also says database Autofill doesn't currently reduce your credit balance, and everyday reads and writes through Notion MCP and the Notion API don't use credits. Running an agent through the API or a connected app does use Notion credits.

When do the Notion pricing changes take effect?

  • October 19, 2026: new Business and Enterprise workspaces start on the credit system.
  • November 2, 2026: existing workspaces move over. Notion says admins will get an email with the details.
  • December 1, 2026: AI Meeting Notes starts using the monthly Standard allowance. Notion estimates a one-hour meeting at about 10 Standard credits.

If you're on a contract that hasn't renewed yet, Notion says you'll still move on November 2 with the same Standard and Select credits as everyone else, and your credits will be set based on your plan at renewal.

Who do the changes affect?

Business and Enterprise workspaces. Notion's credit articles describe the included Standard and Select credits for those two plans only. On the pricing page, Free and Plus still list a "Trial of Notion AI".

Within a Business or Enterprise workspace, the people most likely to notice are those who pick a specific model rather than leaving Notion Agent on Auto, and teams that run Custom Agents. A Custom Agent uses its owner's Select credits by default, even when the whole team uses it, and Select is the smaller allowance.

What happens when your Notion AI credits run out?

Standard and Select are separate, so running out of one doesn't touch the other. When one runs out, the features that use it pause until your next monthly reset. Notion says it alerts you in Notion Agent chat when you're running low.

To keep going, an admin turns on Allow workspace to use Notion credits after AI limit is reached in Settings › Notion AI. This is off by default. Notion credits are bought for the whole workspace: $10 per 1,000 credits on monthly billing, or $13 per 1,000 on annual plans (What are Notion credits?).

What should you do before November 2?

  1. Check your allowance and usage in Settings › Notion AI › Usage. It shows how much you've used, how much is left and when it resets.
  2. If you're an admin, decide whether members may continue on Notion credits when their allowance runs out, and whether to buy any. The setting is off by default, so with no action, AI pauses until the reset.
  3. List your team's Custom Agents and who owns them. Each one draws on its owner's Select credits unless an admin funds it with Notion credits.
  4. Leave Notion Agent on Auto for everyday work. Notion says Auto can make credits go up to 10 times further than picking a top model yourself.
  5. Take a backup while you're in settings: Settings › General › Export all workspace content. Notion emails a download link that expires after 7 days, and a large workspace can take up to 30 hours to export (Export your content).

How do I move my Notion notes to a local-first app?

If the change has you rethinking where your own notes live, rather than your team's wiki, this is where Koru comes in. Koru is my app: a free, open-source (MPL-2.0), local-first desktop workspace for notes, docs and files, for Windows and macOS. Your notes stay on your computer, it works offline, and there's no account to create.

Koru doesn't ship its own AI, so there are no AI credits to meter. The import from Notion runs on your computer, and you don't connect your Notion account:

  1. In Notion, export your workspace, or a page with its sub-pages, as Markdown & CSV. Notion gives you a .zip file.
  2. In Koru, choose Import…, then Notion, and pick the .zip. You can also drop the file into the Koru window.
  3. Your pages appear in the same tree as in Notion, with links between pages, images and files. Full-page databases come across as tables.

Be clear about what you leave behind: Koru has no databases, so views, filters and formulas don't carry over, and it's for your own notes, not team collaboration. If your team runs on Notion databases, Notion is still the better fit. More on Koru as a Notion alternative and what the Notion import keeps, or download Koru.

How many AI credits does a Notion Business seat include?

Notion says each Business and Enterprise member gets 1,500 Standard credits and 500 Select credits a month. The amount may vary with your plan and purchase arrangement; check Settings, Notion AI, Usage.

Do Notion AI credits roll over?

No. Standard and Select credits reset monthly at the start of your billing cycle, and unused credits don't roll over. Monthly Notion credits reset too, and annual Notion credits expire when your subscription renews.

How much do extra Notion credits cost?

Notion lists $10 per 1,000 credits billed monthly, or $13 per 1,000 credits on annual Business and Enterprise plans. They're bought for the whole workspace by an admin.

Does the change affect Notion's Free and Plus plans?

Notion's credit articles describe Business and Enterprise only. The pricing page lists a trial of Notion AI on Free and Plus.

Can I move my Notion notes to Koru?
